    Traditional medicine + modern science
A naturopathic-led formulation with four superhero ingredients blended with the hardest working carminative herb ginger, to keep our guts fit at every stage of menopause.

ACTAZIN®, extract of the green kiwi fruit (Actinidia deliciosa)
ACTAZIN® is a cold-pressed extract of the green kiwi fruit which has been clinically proven to improve bowel regularity and reduce bloating, even at low doses.

    How it Works
Chosen for its powerful and well researched digestive properties. In clinical trials, Actazin® has been shown to reduce constipation, bloating and gastric discomfort, due to the presence of actidin, a kiwi fruit-unique enzyme that enhances protein digestion, including gluten. Protein is an important macronutrient in our plate, particularly in midlife, but can take a long time to digest, sometimes leading to bloating. Kiwi fruit has also powerful prebiotic properties.

    Marshmallow (Althaea officinalis) root
We have selected Marshmallow root for its anti-inflammatory, prebiotic and soothing properties. In traditional medicine and naturopathic practice it is used to reduce constipation and alleviate symptoms of heartburn and acid reflux.

    How it Works
Botanicals with demulcent properties work by releasing a mucilage in the Gastro-intestinal tract that protects mucosal barrier function, resulting in reduced inflammation and less sensitivity to gastric acids. This mucilage, consisting of a complex profile of polysaccharides, is also responsible for this herb’s powerful prebiotic properties.

    Artichoke (Cynara scolymus) leaf
Artichoke is one of the most potent and well researched bitters. Different clinical trials have demonstrated the potential of artichoke leaf extract in significantly reducing symptoms of dyspepsia (indigestion/digestive discomfort) and IBS, and improving quality of life.

    How it Works
Bitters stimulate bitter receptors (BTRs) type 2 receptors (T2Rs), present in the mouth, stomach, gut, liver and pancreas. Their broad action is likely to be related to the fact there are BTRs present in many organs in the body.

    Ginger (Zingiber officinale) root
A beautiful botanical with a strong tradition in supporting digestion, Ginger belongs to the family of herbs know as carminatives, and has been shown to relax our intestinal smooth muscles to prevent or relieve excess gas.

    How it Works
Research shows that ginger accelerates gastric emptying and stimulates peristalsis, meaning it speeds up the pace at which food moves through the Gastro-intestinal tract after a meal. It has also been shown to relax our intestinal smooth muscles to prevent or relieve excess gas.

    AND
A naturopathic lens means our herbs work synergistally too. Our guts have such an impact on how we feel. With prebiotic, carminative, bitter, demulcent and anti-inflammatory properties, this blend is designed to provide the support your body needs to help you get back to feeling like 'you'.

Why did you choose to focus on digestion with your latest Cluster formulation?

We now know that menopause not only impacts our metabolic rate in menopause - it impacts our gut microbiota and gut permeability too. This means that a disproportionate number of women in menopause have digestive symptoms including discomfort, bloating and gas. In addition, our digestive capacity reduces in this period, leading to difficulties in digesting protein and fat, resulting in intolerances and issues with the foods we love, that no longer love us back.

Why have you chosen not to include probiotics in this formula?

Although probiotics are gaining in popularity, practitioners will agree not everyone actually needs or will benefit from them. GUT-INSTINCT is designed to gently support digestive health and uses potent prebiotics which actually help our bodies to promote growth of friendly gut bacteria (probiotics), naturally.

I’ve seen many ‘gut’ products talk about time-release capsules or liquid formats to aid bio-availability. How does GUT-INSTINCT work?

Herbs work differently from probiotic formulas. Because herbs are ‘whole foods', our bodies are able to digest them in the gut, and we are able to extract optimal nutrition and benefits. This also means we don’t need to introduce often unproven, time-release protocols to protect our formula.

Does GUT-INSTINCT help with weight as well as bloating?

We feel uncomfortable about promoting weight loss - particularly in midlife - this is the time to focus on nourishment not punishment!

GUT-INSTINCT focuses on digestion and liver support and health through the lens of naturopathy, which in turn supports our bodies in maintaining a healthy weight. The inclusion of Bitters in our blend helps regulate GIT hormone secretion, regulate appetite and our blood sugar levels too.

Will GUT-INSTINCT help me regulate my appetite?

Our formulation contains herbal heroes that are also known as Bitters. Bitters have several beautiful health benefits, including promoting digestion and the digestion of fat. They also regulate GIT hormone secretion, such as ghrelin and GLP-1, which control appetite and blood sugar levels.
