What do we know. And what should we look for?

Like many plants, we’re still learning about the properties of the cannabis plant - and its potential in supporting our bodies and minds across myriad conditions and life stages. And there is growing interest in its ability to provide relief during menopause too.

Cannabis works by interacting with the body’s endocannabinoid system, which is a nerve signaling system throughout the human body that helps maintain physiological, emotional and cognitive stability. This system consists of 3 parts;

• Endocannabinoids

• Receptors in the nervous system and around your body that endocannabinoids and cannabinoids bond with

• Enzymes that help break down endocannabinoids and cannabinoids

Our endocannabinoid system uses receptors across our body to tell our bodies what to do - and through these receptors, regulates many of our body’s functions. From appetite to digestion. From immune function to inflammation. Mood. Sleep. Temperature regulation. Memory. Pain. Pleasure. Reward.

Which is why, when we consider the value of CBD, the potential benefits are wide-ranging too. Research is building around its potential in treating a number of chronic diseases as well as a number of ‘functional conditions’ including IBS and migraines.

Our consultant medical doctor, Dr Julie Moltke, is one of the leading experts in the field of Cannabis and CBD. She literally wrote the book on it (A great read - if you’re curious to learn more. Check it out HERE). And advises the medical community on dosing.

She often advocates the use of CBD as part of a whole body approach to menopause - and has seen strong results in its ability to:

• Stabilise mood

• Reduce stress

• Reduce anxiety

• Improve focus and productivity

• Improve sleep

• Reduce inflammation and pain

• There is also promising research into its potential to maintain bone density

    As with all supplementation, sourcing and dosing is everything. It is also important to remember that nature packs a powerful punch. Always check with your doctor before introducing anything new to your diet. But it is safe, and you are struggling with some of the above, aside from committing to a daily scoop of MPowder (!), why not try CBD? Be curious. Track impact. Give it a little time. We don’t usually recommend brands specifically - but because of the confused nature of this space, Dr Moltke advises you start by reviewing Montana Wellness - who have recently released a menopause drop.

    Do let us know if you try it.

    With love, the MPowder Team.
