Q. First tell us a little bit about you - and how your ‘yeses’ got you to where you are today.
A. I am an Integrative Nutrition Coach, Master PT, 500 HR YTT Yoga, Pilates &
Medication instructor. After overcoming personal loss and rebuilding my life in midlife, now support other women in reclaimed theirs. My approach blends movement, mindfulness and nutrition to restore energy & clarity.
Q. Then, tell us a little bit about your work as a nutritionist and wellness coach. What is it? Who is it ‘for’? And how did you come to be doing what you do today?
A. I work with women aged 35-99 and we start with the Circle Of Life to determine their priorities and where we should begin.
Q. How has the work you do impact women navigating midlife?
A. Oh, once they “drink the Kool-Aid” they are all in, but it does take some time showing them the way. It’s hard to change things you have been doing your entire life. But they all want a better way, so eventually everyone comes around.
Q. How has your own midlife impacted the way you live and work today?
A. My own midlife story is different, I lost my husband of 20+ years when I turned 40, we had 5 children at the time aged 14-4. So my midlife era started very rocky you can say. Fast forward - and when I was 45 I had my 6th child with my now-partner, Michael. So a very unconventional start to midlife for me.
Q. How do you define success in what you do but also in your personal life?
A. I define success in what I do when a client doesn’t need me anymore, when we discontinue our services and then we are just friends. I get to see them in their daily life living it the best possible and that is very rewarding. Success in my person life manifests itself in ways that are also unique. I find success in taking on new challenges, whether it be athletic events or writing a new book. I always like to do the next big thing in my life, I am a believer in the #diewithzero concept.
Q. And what have you learned about your body and mind’s needs during this phase of life?
A. Well, having at baby at 45, my own perimenopause journey went a little sideways to say the least. After about 48 I knew I needed help, and I sought treatment with a local doctor and first getting my hormones balanced was a big priority. Secondly, I have always been active so changing that routine to accommodate my new midlife body with all its years on it, was a challenge but I enjoy it now. I weight train 3-4 days a week, train for endurance events like 29029 Everesting (Editor's note: this is a phenomenal endurance event where participants train to climb Everest again and again... see HERE for more and feel real awe!) and spend plenty of time outdoors.
Q. What do you wish your younger self had known about:
Life- stop worrying, it’s all going not work out. Its not a big deal.
Love- love is more than sex, much, much more.
Health- I come from a family who take care of themselves. Even in our dark heavy days, we always know what is important. Plus new health information is happening all the time now. I am so grateful to benefit from new insight and pass it on too.
Work- be prepared to shift, you will get to do many things before this life ends.
Q. If you could leave our community with one thought or insight about their bodies, their hormones, their health, what would it be?
A. My biggest piece of advice would be to be consistent in whatever you do. Consistency beats motivation in everything you do. Whether in your workouts, supplements, health markers - just about anything. And 10 minutes a day is better than a week on and four weeks off.
Finally, where can people go to find out more about your work and get involved with your community?
